As you know, if you are a regular reader of the NTSI Fleet tips each week, April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and it’s time to dial down distractions and amp up safety, especially for our valued fleet drivers who are the backbone of every road trip story, delivery success, and logistic triumph.

Eyes Off the Road: Did you know that taking your eyes off the road for just 5 seconds at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field with your eyes closed? 🏈🚫 Pro tip, do not drive on football fields, stay on the road, but never take your eyes off that road!
Statistics Aren’t Just for College Classes: Approximately 3,308 people lost their lives due to distracted driving in 2022, according to the NHTSA. In the same year, an estimated 289,310 people were injured in crashes involving distracted drivers.
Distraction is very dangerous: It caused 29% of crashes, leading to 10,546 deaths, 1.3 million injuries, and $98.2 billion in costs.

Phone Down, Safety Up: 📵 Embrace the “phone away” policy wholeheartedly. That message can wait; safety cannot.
Plan your route in advance to minimize distractions while driving and make the journey more efficient. Avoid making decisions on the road.
Continuous Learning: 📘 Engage with fleet safety training regularly. Staying current with your SAFER driving training is your best defense against the unexpected.
