As NTSI Fleet shared with you last week, May is recognized as Global Youth Traffic Safety Month. As a company dedicated to traffic and fleet driver safety training for over 50 years, with many of us currently having teen drivers, NTSI is committed to our shared goal of SAFER driving training. Providing essential knowledge and practical advice enhances road safety for everyone, especially the younger generation just starting to navigate our roads.

But what does that have to do with Fleet Driver Safety and how can you help?!

Here’s how:

Fleet Driver Safety Training this May
  • Lead by Example: Fleet drivers can model safe driving by obeying speed limits, avoiding distractions, and wearing seatbelts. Fleet managers can promote safety by enforcing protocols and conducting regular safety meetings.
  • Mentorship Programs: Experienced drivers can mentor younger fleet drivers, sharing practical safety tips and personal experiences.
  • Regular Training: Implement ongoing defensive driving and safety training sessions.
  • Promote Awareness: Use fleet driver safety training programs to highlight the significance of traffic safety, particularly during high-risk periods like summer.
  • Reward Safe Driving: Implement reward programs to incentivize safe driving practices among fleet drivers whether novice or seasoned.
  • Incident Analysis: Conduct thorough reviews of any accidents or near-misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Clear Communication: Maintain open lines of communication between management and drivers, of all ages and experience, to address safety concerns and share best practices regularly.

By taking these proactive steps, fleet managers and drivers can promote road safety for all drivers while fostering a culture of safety within their fleets.

As our youth transition from student drivers to daily drivers to potentially fleet drivers, remember that they represent the future of road safety and professional driving. The skills and habits they develop now will shape their careers and influence the safety of our roads for years to come.

Invest in a safer tomorrow and let Global Youth Traffic Safety Month be a cue to make ongoing SAFER driving training for your fleets a priority. Together, we can make a difference.
