Greetings, Fleet Friends,

As we wrap up the final Tuesday Tip of 2025, we find ourselves doing what drivers do instinctively. This moment also gives us a clear fleet safety outlook as we head into 2026. We glance in the rearview mirror, check our surroundings, and take a moment to appreciate the road so far.

Looking Back at the Road So Far

We started 2025 talking about awareness and intention. The kind that helps drivers settle into a new year with focus, patience, and a clear sense of responsibility. As Spring rolled in, we shifted gears toward growth, habits, and how small changes in behavior can lead to meaningful improvements behind the wheel. Summer brought its own conversations, about heat, fatigue, distractions, and the realities of busy roads filled with everything from vacation traffic to fully loaded fleet vehicles. Fall arrived with shorter days, changing conditions, and reminders that preparation matters as much as reaction.

And now here we are, back in Winter again. What a year it has been.

Through it all, one theme has stayed constant, and it continues to shape our fleet safety outlook. Driving SAFER is not seasonal and it is not just related to Fleets. Driving SAFER applies to everyone from new drivers, seasoned drivers, and even pedestrians relying on drivers to make the choices that keep everyone SAFER. Our training, our choices, and our driving behavior is a year round commitment, shaped by conditions, experience, and choices we make every time we turn the key.

Three SAFER Driving Takeaways to Carry Forward

Because it would not be a Tuesday Tip without a few practical reminders, here are three SAFER takeaways to carry forward into the new year.

🚦 Tip 1: Defensive Driving Is a Mindset, Not a Maneuver

Defensive driving is not about one perfect move. It is about anticipation, patience, and space. Looking farther down the road, reading traffic patterns early, and giving yourself time to react keeps drivers out of trouble before it starts. Whether you are in a cargo packed delivery truck or a kid stuffed SUV, thinking ahead is always the safest move.

🛑 Tip 2: Slow Down Enough to Stay in Control

Speed creeps up when schedules are tight and roads feel familiar. Staying SAFER means adjusting speed to conditions, not comfort. Weather, traffic, visibility, and vehicle load all matter. Speeding endangers everyone on the road. According to the NHTSA, in 2023, speeding killed 11,775 people. Slowing down is not about losing time. It is about gaining control and keeping everyone on the road moving safely together.

🧠 Tip 3: Behavior Is the Safety System That Never Fails

Technology, like telematics systems from trusted companies like Lytx, vehicle design from golf carts to F-350s, and regular fleet training all play a role, but driver behavior remains the most powerful safety tool we have, not to mention an ROI that is bottom-line focused but driver-centered. Staying focused, managing emotions, avoiding distractions, and making deliberate choices protect drivers across every vehicle type and every mile traveled. Behavior-based defensive driving works because it travels with the driver, no matter what, or who, they are driving.

Many of you know NTSI as your trusted Fleet training partner. But our roots run even deeper. Since 1974, NTSI’s flagship Diversion and Traffic division has worked with courts, DMVs, and state and local municipalities across the country, from the purple mountain majesties to the fruited plain. NTSI supports drivers of every age and experience level, from the pre teen learning traffic responsibility, to the mature driver refreshing skills, to the experienced CDL fleet professional.

The mission has always been the same. Help every driver learn to drive SAFER.

Because getting home every day, every season, and every year is what keeps NTSI moving forward. It is why we do this work, and why we do it with care, integrity, and a little good humor, some great tunes, and a few geek references along the way.

The road so far still has miles to go, and we are proud to travel it together.

As we close out 2025, we want to thank you for being part of our journey, whether through Fleet driver safety training, defensive driving education, or our long standing Diversion and Traffic programs.

As we look ahead, this fleet safety outlook reminds us that SAFER driving is built one decision at a time.

Here is to a new year ahead. Now let’s check the tire pressure, make sure the wipers are working, check our telematics, know our route, and hit the road, because life is a highway and we intend to travel it SAFER all day, and night, long.

Wishing you a Happy New Year, and until next Tuesday and next year, stay mindful, stay kind, and keep driving SAFER.
